Breathless, Main Gallery, Artspace Plant Zero Richmond

Breathless, is the latest Solo exhibition of work I am presenting at Artspace, Plant Zero in Richmond, Virginia, USA.

Breathless consists of 13 works. 12 of these works are images made in spaces of constraint. I image is of my former bedroom in my mothers house in Australia. These 13 images contrast with this one image. I hope to raise questions about contraint, space and survival both in an out of purpose built interiors.

"I have a deep curiosity about space, survival and the ability for the human to sustain life and live while incarcerated. Vault, the Distraction series, ESP, Fortress and Dreaming are images drawn from bodies of work made at various decommissioned prisons both in the United States and Australia. Field of Mine contrasts my own bedroom at my Mothers house in Perth, Western Australia to these other spaces as a contrast but a similar space of constraint."

Disappearers, 14 November to 24 January 2009

Gippsland Art Gallery, Sale, Victoria, Australia

PETER BIALOBRZESKI, SIMRYN GILL, ANNIE HOGAN, MARK KIMBER, RICHARD LIPP, KENNETH PLEBAN, IZABELA PLUTA, JUHA TOLONEN

14 November to 24 January 2009

Disappearers assembles a cast of eight national and international artists to explore the absent figure in contemporary photography. Haunting, disquieting and spectral, these photographs force us to confront vacant space and consider our relationship with the environment. They show us that while in one sense we ‘are not alone’, in a real sense we are very much alone. Featuring work by Peter Bialobrzeski (Germany), Simryn Gill, Annie Hogan, Mark Kimber, Richard Lipp, Kenneth Pleban, Izabela Pluta and Juha Tolonen.

American

Mendenhall Gallery, East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina, USA

August 25th - September 30th 2009

American

American is an environment of displacement; a process where maker becomes viewer and visa-versa. Formation of creativity is no longer viewed as an independent venture. We've seen this with the Condensation Cube from Hans Hacke, the works of James Turrell, and more recently with works of Katerina Seda who appropriates the drawings of office supplies her grandmother makes in a state of recalling corporate-oppressiveness toil.

The point is, art can be functional; it can move people, invigorate and include them through the use of creative energy or thought process created by you! What better way to include people than in this space, Mendenhall gallery—a place of congregation—the "student center".

Artists include : Wafaa Bilal, Annie Hogan, Adam Jacono, Marilyn Forbes,  Nathan Brines and Roderick Fincannon.
